In late 2010, MIT Technology Review listed Social TV as one of the most important “emerging technologies.” And it offered networks and cable companies an irresistible promise of ”drawing more viewers and more buzz” for live shows due to, “new viewing habits: while people watch, they are using smart phones or laptops to swap texts, tweets, and status updates about celebrities, characters, and even commercials.”
